As Wellstone Action's Director of Camp Wellstone and Advanced Campaign Management School, Jen Haut-Prokop puts to use her organizing skills to make these programs run. While at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, she worked as a peace and justice student organizer, notably creating publications to educate the campus community on issues of environmentalism, fair trade, and political advocacy.
Jen moved to Minnesota in 2006 to participate in the St. Joseph Worker Program, a year-long volunteer experience for young women committed to social change. She worked at St. Catherine University in a civic engagement and service-learning office, pairing students with community-based internships that were integrated back into their coursework. During the 2008 election, Jen furthered her involvement in the community, working with the MN Civic Engagement Table's non-partisan efforts to increase voter turnout.
She credits her upbringing in Iowa, paired with an internship at NETWORK in Washington, D.C., for her passion for progressive politics. Jen continues to serve on the NETWORK Education Program Board and the St. Joseph Worker Program Advisory Board and is excited for where her Camp Wellstone travels will take her next.

This past Friday in Wisconsin, Governor Walker made good on his promise to try to strip away worker's rights.
A look back at some of our numbers from the 2010 training year!
This past month our Sheila Wellstone Institute hosted a historic first-ever training for men-only. The goal was to get men talking to each other about their role in the movement to end domestic violence.
Wellstone Action has created a long-term partnership with the Energy Action Coalition to create a lasting and effective impact on the climate change movement.
Last month we held our third Camp Wellstone in the state of Idaho, a reliably red state since its statehood. During our organizational strategic planning last summer, the mission "to boldly go where other progressive training organizations don't go" easily became one of our priorities. We affectionately refer to this point as, "more Idahos."
Here at Wellstone Action, we pride ourselves on going to places where other national training programs simply don’t. So when Camp Wellstone alums, Marilyn Hemingway and Jamarr Brown approached us and pleaded, “Bring Camp Wellstone to South Carolina!” we took their request seriously.
We're rolling out a new slate of summer camps, and we're pleased that
two of them are being coordinated with the efforts of our great
alumni. Take a look at our upcoming camps and see what these alumni
have been up to.
Let’s face it: our
country is in time of great need and our President has called us to serve.
At Wellstone Action, we're connected to the "green movement" in various
capacities, from training environmental organizers to educating
hundreds of thousands of youth how to lobby effectively on climate
change; however, our repeat zero-waste camp gave us the physical and
practical chance to test out our own environmental know-how.
The last Camp Wellstone of 2008 or the first after the
election? Either way, what does it say for the coming year?
In March of 2008, I met Liz, Jerry, Rollon,
Stacey, and Humphrey, five individuals from the organization Homeless Helping Homeless at Camp Wellstone in Raleigh, NC. I was immediately inspired by their stories
and their mission: ending
homelessness. No small feat!
This past weekend in Albuquerque,
the buzz was generating around a certain presidential candidate, but for Wellstone Action, the Camp Wellstone participants were the real buzz circulating.
Sarah Bruch recently graduated from Camp Wellstone Raleigh in March 2008. Sarah attended the training to help prepare for her candidacy for State Assembly in Hudson, Wisconsin. Wellstone Action caught up with the Bruch family to learn more about the campaign and to hear how their recent Camp Wellstone training is being put to use.
This weekend we're bringing Camp Wellstone back to Boise, Idaho. Throughout the weekend we'll be adding live podcasts from the training!
