Last year, I was honored to accept the Distinguished Minnesotan Award given posthumomously to Paul and Sheila Wellstone at the Bemidji State University Commencement. As graduation time rolls around again, here are some thoughts on engaging in politics and public life.
The Wellstone Organizing Fellows Program surfaces and strengthens youth leadership by offering training, resources, and support for a select group of young leaders of color from Minnesota in partnership with community-based organizations.
This new program provides leadership training and support for a select group of young leaders of color in Minnesota. Fellows participate in an intensive one-month training and then put their new skills to work in local community-based organizations. We also provide ongoing mentoring and peer support throughout the program.
As progressives, we know we can find better leaders. We are looking for
leaders who can restore hope, empower citizens, and be effective voices
for change.
